What is ICCRA?
The International Critical Control Rooms Alliance (ICCRA) is the global professional association advancing excellence in critical control rooms. Formed in 2017, ICCRA brings together operators, managers, senior leaders, and industry partners from across emergency services, utilities, transport, aviation, finance, and infrastructure.
Our work is built on a simple conviction: those who lead and work in critical control rooms deserve access to the best available knowledge, peer networks, and professional frameworks – regardless of sector or geography.

Our Four Focus Areas
ICCRA’s work is organised around four themes that together define what excellence in a critical control room looks like.
People and Performance
The human element of control room excellence. This includes leadership and management capability, operator wellbeing, cognitive performance under pressure, team dynamics, shift culture, and workforce development. High-performing control rooms are built by high-performing people.
Operations
How control rooms are structured, managed, and continuously improved. Standard operating procedures, incident command and control, operational governance, quality frameworks, and the management of complexity and change.
Environment and Ergonomics
The physical and sensory design of the control room environment. Workstation layout, lighting, acoustics, temperature, and the cumulative effect of the built environment on operator performance, health, and sustained attention over long shifts.
Technology
The systems, platforms, and tools that support control room operations. Command and control software, situational awareness platforms, communications infrastructure, data integration, and emerging applications including AI-assisted decision support.
Our Structure
ICCRA operates as a global association with regional chapters. The Global Board provides strategic oversight and direction, while chapters in Europe and North America run their own programmes, events, and engagement activities rooted in regional context.
Chapters are led by practitioners who understand the specific pressures, regulatory environment, and sector landscape of their region. All chapter members are connected to the wider global network.

History
ICCRA was formed in 2017 by practitioners who recognised a gap: there was no globally connected, sector-neutral community advancing professional excellence specifically in critical control rooms. The organisation was founded on the principle that practitioners – not vendors or regulators – should lead that conversation.
That founding principle shapes everything ICCRA does. Our independence, our sector-neutral stance, and our commitment to practitioner-led standards are not incidental – they are the reason ICCRA exists.
